Updated! Senior Second Half - Seniors, You Better Read This!
Canterbury Baseball Club

For the senior second half, we're going to run an experiment: we'll be running two separate grades, division 1 & division 2.

There are two reasons for this: 1) there are a number of people that only want to play socially and don't want to commit to coming every week. It's not fair to them or their teammates when we scrounge for players. 2) It's becoming a safety issue - the goal is to enjoy your game, not get hurt.

The two division 1 teams, currently called the Expos and Pilots just to get your attention, will play a nine inning, wood bat game starting at 12:00 - note new time. This is especially (thought not exclusively) for those players nominated for the national training squads for under 15s, under 18s and seniors. If you screw-up in this game, expect to get yelled at by your coach and/or teammates. Expect to see 75+ mph pitching (more if Josh, Chad & Sam do their workouts), quick innings and a bit more competition.

The division 2 teams, the Red Sox and the Dodgers, will play a seven inning games starting at 3:30. This will be a bit less competitive and allow people that haven't played in a while or at all a chance to get up-to-speed while still being able to enjoy the game. Players may use wood or aluminium bats. The division1 players will help coach teams so that players have the opportunity to improve.

The division 2 grade is also where new players that just "show up" can play.

Players may play in both grades, but the division 2 players will get the starting spots in the second game - division 1 players are just there to fill in the any holes. That means as a division 1 player, we need you to stick around to help coach, umpire and / or fill in if there are not enough players.

For the division 1 game, some players may be on the roster, but not get as much game time. These players will generally start in the division 2 game.

Division 2 players that show ability to handle the division 1 play may be asked to play up (so if you hit .500 or pitch a no-hitter in the division 2 grade, you'll probably get called up!).

The links below will take you to the team rosters: You can also check your own player page to see what team you are on by looking at the team name next to 2006 Canterbury Summer Senior. Note that you may be on two teams.

If you have an issue with your placement, you can talk to David or Sean.

New players will need to fill in a registration form on Sunday - fees will be 1/2 of the annual fees - $79. After 29 January, anyone that hasn't paid their fees will be charged $10 per game, paid prior to game-time.

The schedule will be updated over the coming week.

We are open to feedback on this plan. We want you to enjoy the games on Sunday and we think this will improve everyone's enjoyment. Email your feedback to the webmaster or talk to David Ballinger or Sean Callahan.
