Saturday the 13th was an overcast cold Christchurch day. But the both dugouts were full of gear and players were on the field warming up (or trying to keep warm) for the game.
The top half of the first inning looked like that Australian's were going to put a good fight with four runs across the plate. The Kiwi's returned just as strong with five of their own.
The Aussies got another run in the top of the second off Mahon's sac-fly to even the score. But it seems the NZ team was ready for the day, racking up three more of their own.
The score book gets a bit unbalanced at this point with the Kiwi team obviously enjoying the wet damp weather and piling on the runs.
The game was scheduled to go a full nine innings but with play going a bit slow, weather getting worse and pitchers struggling, the game was called in the 7th inning.
Thanks very much to the Renown team for coming over. It was a good time and while the sausages ran out too early, everyone was in good spirits. We will have to make plans to go play them in Sydney in the future.
